We are all familiar with the many benefits a music education and LIYO provide to students; persistence, discipline, dependability, creativity, problem-solving, communication skills, accountability, honesty and integrity. LIYO musicians understand and embrace teamwork and multiple points of view. They are risk-takers and pursue excellence. The LIYO experience prepares these young people well for their future roles in society.
As a nonprofit organization, LIYO relies on the generosity of it volunteers, audience, and donors to ensure the best possible musical experience for its young players. LIYO’s story and contribution to the Long Island community is an important one. With all that LIYO has offered since its inception, its pursuit of high quality music education continues to enrich the community.
Gifts to LIYO will help strengthen collaborative opportunities with coaches and other professional musicians, create the possibility for a youth string orchestra, as well as the ability to perform at state of the art venues. Please consider making a donation today. Please help LIYO reach its next phase of innovation and inspiration.

Each year the Martin Dreiwitz Scholarship Award Competition for Graduating Seniors is awarded to graduating members of the orchestra who intend to continue their studies of music. The competition is open to any LIYO member in good standing. Competitors perform a piece at the appropriate level for judges who will adjudicate each performance based on several criteria including accuracy, intonation, phrasing, dynamics, musicality and overall presentation.
The Martin Dreiwitz Scholarship Award Competition is an excellent performance opportunity for students. All orchestra members are encouraged to participate, especially those LIYO members who may not as yet had the experience of performing in an adjudicated competition.
